Cannabis-Assisted Therapy
Bridging the gap between clinical science and the wisdom of the soul.
While many view cannabis as a recreational plant, it is also a powerful somatic tool for deep psychological healing. At Syzygy, we utilize Cannabis-Assisted Psychedelic Therapy (CAPT) to help you bypass the "inner critic" and access the healing intelligence of your own body.
The Philosophy: Why Cannabis?
True healing requires more than just understanding your story—it requires feeling and releasing it. Trauma is not just a memory; it is a physical imprint etched into the nervous system.
In a therapeutic setting, cannabis acts as a "molecular key" that quiets the Default Mode Network (DMN)—the part of the brain responsible for rumination, ego-defense, and "looping" thoughts. When this network relaxes, your internal defenses soften. This creates a sacred window where suppressed emotions, cellular memories, and physical tensions can surface to be processed and integrated. This isn't just "talk therapy"; it is a process of epigenetic shifts and nervous system recalibration.
The Path to Alignment
We guide you through a structured, four-phase process to ensure safety and lasting change:
-
Before the medicine, there is the relationship. We begin with a comprehensive clinical intake to explore your history, current needs, and readiness for this work. This is more than a screening; it is a collaborative space to ensure CAPT is the most supportive path for your mental and physical health. Together, we begin the essential work of building the trust and clarity required for deep exploration.
-
Preparation is where we set intentions and develop the somatic tools you’ll use during your journey. We focus on grounding techniques and "resourcing" your nervous system so you feel fully anchored and prepared for whatever surfaces.
This phase is tailored to your unique nervous system. While many clients feel ready for their first journey after 2 sessions, others may choose to spend more time (up to 10 sessions) preparing the mind and body. We move at the "speed of safety," ensuring you have the grounding tools needed to navigate deep waters.

Cannabis is a legal medicine in Washington State and does not require a prescription. However, to safely utilize this medicine in therapy, you can obtain a medical authorization with Dr. Jenia Malysh, PMHNP, or another provider trained in cannabis education and psychiatric evaluation. This ensures the medicine supports your mental health needs, gives you access to the best-quality cannabis in your area, and allows for tax-free purchases.
In session, cannabis is taken in a mindful way to help shift your state of consciousness. These sessions are held in a safe, private therapeutic container with your therapist present throughout. You may be invited to use an eye mask and there is often gentle music played during the journey to help you deepen your focus inward, or to engage more actively in processing emotions and sensations.
During the session, you may experience:
Heightened awareness of body sensations
Emotional release or memory recall
Symbolic imagery or dreamlike states
A deep sense of relaxation, timelessness, or spaciousness
Active imagination and parts work engagement
Each journey is unique. Some may feel quiet and reflective, while others involve more expression, movement, or dialogue. With compassionate guidance, these states become opportunities to process trauma, soften defenses, and connect with the body’s innate capacity to transform stress into balance.
-
Integration is where the "magic" of the journey becomes the "work" of your life. We spend several weeks or months translating your experiences into lasting behavioral shifts, helping you weave new insights into your daily relationships and self-concept.
Medical Authorization & Safety
To ensure your safety and clinical alignment, a medical recommendation for cannabis is required before beginning your journeys.
-
Most of our clients work with Dr. Malysh for their medical authorization. As a Doctor of Nursing Practice and Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, she understands our specific somatic protocols and provides a seamless, professional bridge into our care.
-
You are also welcome to seek a recommendation from another qualified provider. If you choose this path, we are happy to coordinate with them to ensure your health history is integrated into our treatment plan.

While the legal age for medical cannabis in our practice is 21+, we take a specialized approach with young adults. Because the human brain continues its primary development until roughly age 25, we engage in a more rigorous preparation phase for clients under 25. This ensures that the medicine is used in a way that supports, rather than interrupts, your long-term neurological health and emotional maturity
